Our 2 days desert tour from Marrakech will start at your riad (or hotel). Our tour guide/driver from our agency will pick you up early in the morning. From there, we will depart for the Atlas Mountains through the Tizi N’Tichka mountain pass. There will be stops so you can view and take photos of Berber villages and other beautiful sceneries.
We will then proceed to the ksar (or fortified village) of Ait Ben Haddou, a world heritage site declared by UNESCO in 1986. A favourite spot for filmmaking, some of the well-known movies filmed here include Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Mummy (1999), Alexander (2004), and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010), to name a few.
Our desert tour continues to the Taourirt kasbah, another famous site in the province of Ouarzazate, Morocco. In this desert excursion, you’ll also see the Valley of Roses and Skoura Palm Grove. We’ll have our lunch while we’re in Ouarzazate.
Our desert trip continues in the afternoon. We’ll pass by the Todra Gorge and Dades Valley, also known as the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs”. It will be late in the afternoon when we’ll reach the stunning dunes of the Merzouga desert. We’ll go on a camel ride to trek the Erg Chebbi desert. You’ll enjoy the beautiful landscape and the breathtaking view of the sunset.
Day one of our private tour ends when we arrive at a Berber desert camp, where we’ll be greeted with a glass of mint tea. Take a rest while waiting for your dinner, and then enjoy traditional nomadic drumming music around a campfire. Finally, spend the rest of the night in a luxurious tent in this Morocco desert camp.
In the morning, we suggest you enjoy the beautiful sunrise. Wander through the dunes near the camp, and appreciate the fantastic view of the Sahara desert. After that, have breakfast, take a shower and get ready for our trip back to Marrakech.
We will head back to the original location on a camel ride to meet our tour guide/driver. We have a 4WD vehicle, in case you want an alternative mode of transportation.
Our trip back to Marrakech will be slightly different this time around. From the Merzouga desert, we’ll drive through the Draa valley region. We’ll continue to Agdez, a town famous for its market of dates and an oasis of several hundred thousand palm trees.
On our way to the Draa, we’ll make a few stops to marvel at the beautiful views of the river. Our marrakech-merzouga desert tour continues as we pass through the Anti Atlas mountain range to reach Ouarzazate. We will stop for lunch in this province.
In the afternoon, we’ll continue with our trip returning to Marrakech. We will then drop you off at your riad/hotel. And that concludes our Marrakech to Merzouga desert day trip .
